Stop Craddock Farms
In 2014, a company called Craddock Farms wanted to build what would have been Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest caged egg farm at the time, in the small South Auckland community of Patumahoe. Locals opposed the intensive farm and we worked with them on a successful campaign calling on Auckland Council to decline Craddock Farms resource consent to build the mega farm.
The fight eventually went to the Environment Court in 2015, which declined Craddock’s consent to build. Over that time, our campaign involved numerous peaceful protests, lots of media coverage, holding public meetings, a 10,000 signature petition presented to Auckland Council and lobbying local politicians.
The campaign was a big success as we stood effectively alongside a rural community and together, we stopped 300,000 egg laying hens from being confined to a lifetime of caged cruelty.
